PTC in freight and commuter rail

In 2008, President George W. Bush signed the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RSIA), amending Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. The act requires freight- and commuter-rail operators to implement by 2015 measures to prevent train-to-train collisions, over-speed derailments and movement through misaligned switches, as well as enforce roadway worker protection. It can be said positive train control was born as a result of this legislation.
