Jason Benson, Cass County Engineer, was looking for a solution for a troubled 11.4-mile gravel road section of Cass County #3 linking 1-94 to Ayr, N.D. While the roadway has a relatively moderate traffic count of 125 ADT, it does have a high percentage of trucks. "We found it hard to maintain the gravel surface, with severe washboards and potholes developing, and a weak subgrade with moisture problems. The surface required regraveling on this segment on a frequent basis," said Benson.
