摘要

But with limited budgets, what can city, county, and state transportation officials do to maintain their bridges while operating with already thin budgets stretched even thinner because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reduction in traffic-based revenue that has resulted from it? According to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), "there are more than 617,000 bridges across the United States. Of these, 42% of all bridges are at least 50 years old, and 46,154, or 7.5% of the nation's bridges, are considered structurally deficient, meaning they are in 'poor' condition."
