Starbucks is encouraging customers to wirelessly surf the net while sipping their skinny lattes; hotels are charging for previously free room internet access; and more and more buildings are being equipped for wireless provision. City developments are becoming a string of 'hotspots', zones where laptops or whole computer networks can wirelessly connect to the internet or to corporate and exchange servers. There is the potential to allow millions of computer users uninterrupted, remote access to the web.
