As our Gregorian calender takes us into a probably miserable 2010 for the construction sector, it's cold comfort that China's industry is still in overdrive. But we live in hope, and with Chinese New Year falling on February 14, it's worth considering the elements governing this month's issue, and the year in general. The element of fire is covered in our article on risk assessors, with the hope that the CLG can finally close a professional loophole whose current logic is anathema to everyone in the industry. It also links to wood, with the possibility that this year, building sites with timber structures might, after a spate of recent arson attacks in London, need a form of fire certification while under construction well before any fire risk assessment certificate is ever signed.
