Frameworks are no guarantee of volume or value of work, but their steadying cash-flow benefits do help counterbalance the more 'spiky'effects of larger one-off capital projects. This has certainly helped gbs architects to build a sustainable workforce with very low rates of staff 'churn'. Based in Oxford, we signed a one-year pilot with the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust in 2001. This resulted in a six-year relationship that delivered more than 167 completed projects, worth ￡33m, which improved clinical facilities and patient welfare. Schemes ranged from the ￡6m refurbishment of laboratories to designing a ￡20m neo-natal unit. The framework agreement has been renewed until 2016.
