Time was when barely anyone, apart from Frank Gehry, knew what BIM actually meant. Now it's being banded around in the halls of government like it's going out of fashion. You've got to blame the chief construction advisor, Paul Morrell, for that. This is probably due to the construction success of the likes of Terminal 5, which as a precondition of appointment, tied all the consultants into taking up Building Information Modelling to provide the 3D model as well as 4D and 5D costs and scheduling. But Terminal 5 was a £4.3bn project, and all the parties were already major players — it doesn't necessarily mean BIM has the same kind of justifications when going from the macro to the micro scale.
