Top job for Hodder

Manchester-based Stephen Hodder has been confirmed unopposed as RIBA president elect, a post he will assume on September 1. The traditional year's overlap with the current president means he succeeds Angela Brady for a two-year term in September 2013. Hodder - who won the very first Stirling Prize in 1996 for his Centenary Building at Salford University - is an architect of impeccable modernist credentials who famously beat a shortlist of well-known architects to expand Jacobsen's St Catherine's College in Oxford. At present he is building a very different set of student residences to be Manchester's second tallest tower.
