Improved performance of calcia‐stabilized zirconia electrolytic cells for monitoring concentrations of H2O(g) in H2(g) streams [(g)=gas phase] has been obtained through refinements in cell design and operation. These cells have been used to measure H2O(g) concentrations in flowing H2 streams from as low as 0.018 to several hundred parts per million. For the lower H2O concentrations, the cell time constants for response were in the several minute range. It appeared that the cells operated at equilibrium in the steady state but not so under transient conditions.
