De nombreux ouvrages décrivent l'histoire et les progrès réalisés dans le domaine de l'offshore pétrolier et gazier, tant du point de vue des réserves que des techniques d'exploitation. Il n'est nullement question ici de faire un résumé de tous ces travaux, mais plutôt de montrer que l'exploration et la production du pétrole et du gaz par très grande profondeur est à la fois un mélange de technologie, de gestion de projets et - surtout - de passion et d'innovation. Car sans la passion qui anime les hommes et les femmes de notre industrie, l'aventure humaine de l'offshore profond n'aurait jamais eu lieu.%Several studies relate the history and progress made in offshore production from oil and gas fields in relation to reserves and the techniques for producing oil offshore. The intention herein is not to review these studies but rather to argue that the activities of prospecting and producing deepwater oil and gas call for a combination of technology and project management and, above all, of devotion and innovation. Without this sense of commitment motivating men and women in this industry, the human adventure of deepwater production would never have taken place.
