Thousands of North American communities now have fully implemented, mature residential recycling programs. While it is common for most communities in a specific region to have similar programs, communities in some regions use a wide variety of recycling approaches, even though they share the same recycling, waste disposal and public media markets. By assessing data from programs in this latter group, findings can be generated regarding the approaches that appear to result in greater waste diversion.
