The Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corp. (Calgary) released its 2007 Annual Report, detailing the performance of different recycling materials collected by the Canadian province's beverage container recovery program. Achieving a 69.7-percent recycling rate for the 2007 calendar year, a two-percentage-point increase over 2006's standing, the program, diverted 81,856 tons of recyclable materials from landfill - over one billion containers in total. Breaking down notable beverage container categories, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) containers made up 37.4 percent of units sold in 2007, which yielded a 66.7-percent return rate and equated to 11,062 tons diverted from landfill.
