The new SC1152 and SC652 stump cutters have been redesigned to enhance efficiency, with sizeable cutting width, and the ability to maneuver in uneven terrain. The SC1152 is powered by a 110-horsepower (hp) Tier 3 Cummins diesel engine, while the SC652 is powered by a 65-hp Tier 4A version. The stump cutters are equipped with a unique four-bar linkage that allows the units' cutting wheel to move away from the machine as the boom lowers onto a stump. The linkage, according to Vermeer, reduces the need to reposition the entire cutter, and helps boost overall machine performance. The cutter wheel is powered by a heavy-duty variable displacement hydrostatic pump that allows operators to do away with the need for clutch- and belt-drive maintenance. The hydrostatic pump also works in conjunction with a series of flow dividers, which power the units' full-time, four-wheel drive capabilities by transferring oil flow and power independently to each wheel motor. Additionally, the cutter wheel's guard remains parallel with the ground at all times, providing the machine with smooth movement when traversing rugged terrain.
