According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's latest Municipal Solid Waste Generation, Recycling, and Disposal in the United States: Facts and Figures report, approximately 12.25 million tons of post-consumer glass was discarded in the U.S. municipal solid waste stream in 2008. Of that, 10.05 million tons, or 82 percent, of this waste glass was container glass, of which 28 percent was recycled.
