When municipal program officials are looking to launch a food scrap collection system, typically, four principal decisions must be considered. These decisions include: Desired collection method for food scraps and residual waste (e.g., manual, semi or fully-automated), along with its frequency; types of carts, in-home containers and liners; and program education and promotion.
