APR, ACC release bottle recycling rate report

The plastic bottle recycling rate report has been released by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers and the American Chemistry Council. According to the report, the overall bottle recycling rate was 28.8 percent, up from 27.8 percent. Collections went up 123 million pounds, an increase of 5 percent. HDPE collections rose by 2.5 million pounds to 984 million pounds in the past year, and resin use was up slightly. Thus, the rate fell slightly. Reclaimer utilization was 81 percent, up 4 percentage points. For HDPE, 36 percent of the PCR went into bottles, 32 percent to pipe and 12 percent into lumber.
