Some of the used PET containers being snapped up by a Netherlands company arte ending up as environmentally friendly hijabs, or cloth head coverings. Malaysian company Kloth sells the Green Hijab product, made from 100 percent recovered PET. Each hijab has the equivalent of two recycled PET containers in it. Ciparo, a Netherlands-based waste management company, collects the bottles, and the hijabs are produced in Shanghai. After collection, the containers are sorted, cleaned, crushed, flaked and chipped. The chips are then heated, extruded into yarn and woven into chiffon. The launch of the Green Hijab took place on June 5, 2014, in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme World Environment Day.
