Glencore is permanently closing its New Brunswick lead smelter, which consumes millions of pounds of cathode-ray tube (CRT) glass each year. In the wake of that move, a company in western Canada said it was doubling its glass processing capacity. CRT glass is found in older TV sets and monitors, and the material has become problematic for the electronics recycling sector because it makes up a large portion of the municipal e-scrap stream but carries a negative value.
