LCD monitors have been a growing portion of the electronics waste stream, as more of the devices reach end of life. New equipment aims to speed up pre-processing of the products.LCDs are typically disassembled manually by workers or sent into an advanced shredder. The ALR3000 system from Votechnik provides automated disassembly, which is attractive for its speed and valuable output.Dublin-based Votechnik has been developing the technology since 2009, in collaboration with the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, recycling companies, the University of Limerick and others. It evolved into a European Commission-funded initiative called the Re-volv Project, which aims to push the technology into the marketplace.
