摘要

The word "knowledge" appears in the titles of academic books and journal articles with increasing frequency these days. Yet, DeFillippi, Arthur and Lindsay's "Knowledge at Work" makes an important contribution to our understanding of how knowledge is generated, applied, and distributed in an information-intensive economy.rnThe central theme of the book is that knowing (learning), knowledge (what we know) and knowledge transfer take place through interaction and communication within and, perhaps more significantly, between four key participants of the knowledge economy: the individual, the firm, the community and the industry. These participants are linked by a complex web of relationships represented in the form of a knowledge diamond. The book argues that learning is shaped by how closed or open each of the participants is to sharing knowledge, and the means by which social connections for sharing knowledge are created and sustained.
