Inert gas generation via boiler and low pressure EGR

Inert gas is used on many oil and gas carriers to prevent explosion in the carrier's cargo tanks, by supplying gas with lower than 5% oxygen content to the atmosphere of the cargo tanks. Inert gas systems are safety equipment that are required under "International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea" (SOLAS) regulation. An inert gas system may comprise the following components: 1.Inert gas generator - IGG, which in turn may comprise a burner for burning fuel to generate flue gas, and a scrubber (including water sprayers/sprinklers and demister) to cool the flue gas and remove water droplets 2.Fuel pumps to supply fuel to the burner with redundancy 3.Air fans to supply air to the burner with redundancy 4.Deck water seal to stop vapor in the cargo tanks from entering the engine room 5.PV breaker for pressure control in the cargo tanks 6.Blower/fan, if and where necessary.
