The present invention helps identify the isolation value in ohms from an access point such as the High Voltage Service Disconnect. This invention provides the isolation to chassis/ground of the High Voltage Battery for Electric Vehicle or Electric Hybrid Vehicle. That might have limited access to the battery's control system due to lack of power to be self-diagnostic, a fire, or collision damage. This process does not require energizing any part of the electrical system. The invention's application requires access to the High Voltage Service Disconnect, a voltmeter, and a resistance shunt. Most of the time, after an incident, the connection system has been damaged. It is impossible to assure the HV Fuses in the Battery pack are operational; therefore, it is unlikely to perform this task. This invention procedure takes advantage of the High Voltage Service Disconnects accessible location, usually in the passenger compartment under a Seat, Center console, or trunk. By removing the High Voltage Service Disconnect and have access to a Voltmeter and a known shunt resistance, it is possible to obtain the isolation resistance to the chassis of the Positive and Negative side of the high voltage battery.
