The current pickup box bed cap (1) is used for styling and offers protection to the top of the pickup box side (2). This invention adds function to the pickup box bed cap as side rails for tonneau covers. The tonneau cover panel (3) will secure directly to the pickup box bed caps (1) in the closed position. The pickup box bed caps (1) allow access into the cargo area (4) by means of a hinge (5) at the front of the pickup box and prop rod (6) or strut to hold the cover in the open position. Side rail will contain locking feature (7) at the rear to keep the tonneau cover closed. 1. Eliminates need for additional side rails to be included in tonneau cover kits. 2. Eliminates hardware to mount side rails. 3. Improves water run off by pushing rail to pickup box Interface outside the cargo area. 4. Aftermarket installation simplified. 5. Lowers mass of tonneau cover subsystem.
