Belt bucket elevators are used for the vertical transport of powdery and coarse-grained bulk materials (e.g. limestone, raw meal, clinker, cement, fertilisers, gravel, coke, ores). A loose adapter, which enables the use of different bucket sizes and bucket shapes is mounted between the bucket and the belt with single or multi-row bore holes. This enables to mount the buckets with smooth back plates to steel cord belts with segment fastening without having to modify them. An adapter is a specially formed object, which is slightly curved enabling necking of the belt. The bucket mounting segments shall be drawn into the belt and shall not touch the pulley when they run over the pulley. The adapter can be made of sheet metal, rubber or plastic. If the adapter mounted is made of sheet metal, the adapter is composed of a base plate and an intermediate section (see drawing). The arrangement is as follows: bucket - adapter - rubber plate - belt - fitting. The rubber plate serves to protect the belt against wear and tear. Before the belt gets damaged, first the rubber plate is worn out and then the belt. An alternative is to weld the adapter to the backwall of the bucket.
