Closed-loop Current Control of Multiphase Permanent Magnet DC Motor Drives

Direct current (DC) machines with multiple winding sets, referred to as multiphase DC machines, provide redundancy in safety applications. Although the construction of multiphase DC motors is similar to conventional single-winding motors, the magnetic coupling between the different winding sets causes the behavior of the machine, and in-turn the control design challenges, to be significantly different.
