Capacitors are electronic components that can store electric charge. The classic setup of a capacitor is two conductive parallel plates with a dielectric material in between. The performance of such device depends on the material between the plates and the dimensions of the device. Metallized film capacitors are capacitors made out of metalized thin plastic film that is rolled up (rolling up the classic setup) with two connection terminals attached. Biaxialty oriented polyethyleneterephthalate (BO-PET) and biaxially oriented polypropylene currently are the main materials used in these type of capacitors. It now has been found to be advantageous to use in capacitors biaxially oriented poly(ethylene-2,5-furandicarboxy|ate) (BO-PEF) preferably prepared from monoethylene glycol and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid only and preferably as described in PCX patent application publication 2016/032330.
