This algorithm, operating in a vehicle controller, when enabled, checks for one or more of these triggering conditions: 1. Shutter and heat exchanger (HTX) external icing / snow 2. Need to initiate condensation in AC system during cold weather but desired shutter position is closed 3. Overall vehicle energy consumption can be reduced by aerodynamic loss reduction 4. Charge air cooler (CAC) approaching condensate generation, at which time the algorithm optimally coordinates one or more of the following mitigating functions until no longer necessary: 1. Reverse and modulate air flow of at least one powertrain cooling fan 2. Modulate shutter opening position (if not frozen in place). The algorithm enabling condition is comprised of checking various powertrain operating parameters, such as component and fluid temperatures, pressures, and/or states, to ensure that actuation of the algorithm will not cause any systems to operate outside of acceptable ranges. If the algorithm enabling condition becomes false during algorithm operation the powertrain cooling fan and shutter commands will return to their normally commanded states determined by other control algorithms operating in one or more vehicle controllers. Similarly, when the algorithm enabling condition is true but all triggering conditions are false the powertrain cooling fan and shutter commands will maintain or return to their normally commanded states determined by other control algorithms operating in one or more vehicle controllers.
