Suntech, China's and the world's largest solar producer, said in August 2012 that its manufacturing costs are expected to fall by another 30% this year - building on falls of 75% in the previous two years - to US$0.55/kW, excluding the cost of silicon raw materials. Despite trade sanctions, intense competition continues to drive down prices all along the supply chain, leading to ongoing innovation in production and cost reductions.
