"A history of bold creativity, progressive thinking and community service." That was how Antonis Simigdalas, president of the European Regions Airline Association (ERA), summed up the organisation's achievements over its 25-year existence during the Silver Jubilee General Assembly in Gothenburg, Sweden. Low costs have always been a feature of member airlines, Simigdalas noted, but nowadays - "with very little opportunity to reduce controllable costs" - much depends on how the non-controllable costs fluctuate. One way that external costs can be alleviated, he added, is for more funding for security to come from government.
