Old Man Winter made an angry stopover in the north-east portion of the United States in January. Multiple snowstorms dotted the landscape up and down the east coast that first week of the new year, wreaking havoc with wild icy weather. Airlines, which have absolutely no control over weather conditions, were first to feel the punch. The snowstorms forced a total of 20,000 flight cancellations. JetBlue Airways was one of those which took it hard, cancelling 1,800 flights as it was forced to ground aircraft at its four major airports in the north-east - Boston Logan, New York's John F Kennedy and LaGuardia airports, and Newark Liberty International.
