18thConnect: Eighteenth-Century Scholarship Online

18thConnect is, as the name implies, a portal connecting to a range of digital scholarship resources on eighteenth-century studies. It is a companion to the recently reviewed NINES (www.nines.org) (RR 2012/246), which is a portal to nineteenth-century resources. Both of these websites have been developed by the University of Virginia in partnership with three other universities through funding provided by the Mellon Foundation. The sites have three main goals: to serve as a peer-review body for digital work on eighteenth and nineteenth-century studies; to support scholars and promulgate best practices for the creation of digital research materials; and to develop software tools which further both traditional and new forms of research and critical analysis. The result is an online finding aid for scholarly materials, as the site describes it, "a kind of table of contents to the best internet resources in eighteenth-century studies".
