Reference Guide to Africa: A Bibliography of Sources (3rd edition)

This third edition of Reference Guide to Africa is published nine years after the second (RR 2006/231) and 15 after the first (RR 1999/291). Both previous editions were well received, the first achieving the accolade of a Choice "Outstanding Academic Title". All three editions have been authored by African studies librarians at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The university holds one of the largest specialist collections of Africa-related material in North America and for many years offered a "Bibliography of Sub-Saharan Africa" course to students in the Graduate School of library and Information Science. Co-author Alfred Kagan, who has published other African studies bibliographies and articles, recently retired as a professor of library administration and African studies bibliography at the university. He has been involved in all three editions of this title, co-authoring the first with his predecessor Yvette Scheven, undertaking the second edition alone and producing this latest version with Atoma Batoma, who has now taken up the post at the university previously held by Kagan.
