The water purveyor is responsible for the quality of the drinking water supply in the distribution system. The water delivered to the water user must meet drinking water standards as prescribed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Water delivered from the water purveyor to the water users fire sprinkler system must start out with this same drinking water quality. Once delivered to the water users' fire protection systems, water can be subjected to conditions that can change the quality of the water to something less than drinking water standards.
