My assistant, Brenda, needed a plumber. The plumber she had used in the past had disappeared. Her daughter gave her a referral. Brenda called the number and left a message at 8:15 a.m. When she called the number the automated voice said, "This is (ⅩⅩⅩ-ⅩⅩⅩⅩ). The person you are trying to reach is not available. Please leave a message (these might not be the exact words but they are close). If you use voice mail, your recordings should at least identify your company name so the caller feels comfortable that she called the right number. For example, "This is NAME with ABC Plumbing. Please leave your name and telephone number and I'll do my best to call you back by the end of the day".
