Despite a not-so promising weather forecast, the Ghost Squadron's recent follow-up aerotow fun fly event at BMFA Buckminster on the 4th and 5th May encouraged a healthy turnout from all corners of the UK. Supremely well organised (as always), ]ohn Greenfield and his tight-knit team ran the event like a military operation, smoothly and safely, making sure there were enough tug aircraft and pilots on hand at all times to keep the waiting glider queues to a minimum. To help keep things moving there was also a supply of back-up tug aircraft and fresh pilots to relieve the occasionally weary stalwarts. Even so, in most cases Tony Hazlehurst, Pat Marsden, Ray Watts, Darren Maple, andsometimes Bernie Jones managed to keep at it throughout the day, such is their resolve. Truth is, these gentlemen are so relaxed that the towing process is just second nature to them, practically a reflex action; they do not seem to tire of the cycle and, if anything, the repetitive rhythm appears to regenerate their energy levels. They are our unsung heroes who we applaud for without their jovial demeanour and 'can do' attitude we wouldfly only half as much.
