Benefactor for the many: Alan Moore dies

DESCRIBED AS an unassuming gentleman, who quietly helped fund many heritage railways and projects without fanfare, Alan Moore CBE, 84, has died after a long illness. His generosity supported many railways in their start-up years and their further development. "Certainly, the Bodmin & Wenford Railway (BWR) would not be where it is now without his long association and interest," said BWR Publicity Officer Jimmy James. Best known for his support of the BWR, Swanage and North Norfolk Railways, Moore was also President of the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway Society, having been involved with his local line since the 1960s. He helped to fund many projects there and remained a local resident.
