Churnet Valley secures £1.4m for Leek extension

The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EARDF) has awarded £1.43m to the Churnet Valley Railway for its 'Reconnect Leek' project. The grant will cover 80% of the construction costs for just under a mile of railway line and associated infrastructure to a new station (the original site is occupied by a supermarket). It will also reestablish the former triangular junction at Leekbrook, creating the first original operational riangle linking three different destinations on a UK heritage railway.
