Plans to celebrate 30 years of Ark Royal

The Class 50 Alliance is looking to celebrate the 30th anniversary of 50035 being the first Class 50 named - it was christened Ark Royal on January 18 1978. It is unlikely 50035 will be ready after major repairs to commemorate the exact date but its owners are in talks to have the locomotive officially rededicated with the Royal Navy. 50035 is presently at Old Oak Common and has had its engine refitted, and its overhauled ETH generator is ready for refitting. Its rotten cabside panels have been removed and replacement panels will be fitted over the winter.
