Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) intends to utilise available land at some of its major stations along the line, to develop inter-modal dry ports in order to speed up intermodal cargo handling activities. Dry Ports will be loading, and off-loading points complete with warehousing and consolidation, weighbridges, third-party logistics providers, as well as, customs facilities and distribution centres. To this end, ZRL recently issued an Expression of Interest (Eol), for the development of seven dry ports, the shortlist of bidders has yet to be announced.
