Firstly, I hope all RT&S readers and their families enjoyed a happy holiday season and are able to welcome the new year with enthusiasm and promise. Best practices regarding inspection and maintenance of the modern railway infrastructure arise from education, experience and continued training. These best practices are critical components of railway infrastructure management as they relate to the safety and fluidity of train operations, safety of employees and the public and protection of railroad company assets. Railway track, structures and signal supervisors engaged in the inspection and maintenance of infrastructure are, therefore, critical components of infrastructure management.
