MAP-21 two-month extension passed

Legislation extending current surface transportation funding until July 31, 2015 has been passed by Congress and signed by President Obama. Congress now has two additional months to work on a longer term solution. Regarding the May 19 House of Representatives passage of the extension, American Public Transportation Association President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Melaniphy said, "Congressional leaders note that this extension is intended to provide time to secure funding for a long-term bill. It is crucial that Congress act with urgency to address the nation's crumbling infrastructure. Congress must get focused and use these two months to develop realistic and viable options for a long-term solution to funding the nation's transportation system."
