Potential Frost Heave Detection and Remediation Methods

In a multiyear study, Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI) has been working to improve frost-heave detection on track and improved remediation meth-ods. The first phase of the project reviewed highway experiences in order to determine what methods, if any, can be adopted by the railroad industry. This review includes gather-ing data regarding conditions that can produce frost heave, methods that can be used for detection, and potential remedial solutions.
