The railway tie market is dependent on a number of different factors, and it does not help when unexpected guests drop in. During 2019 those surprise visitors were the tariff war between the U.S. and China and the Midwest flooding in early spring. Due to late data, the Railway Tie Association (RTA) has been unable to pinpoint a more accurate forecast for the remainder of 2019, but flat growth in Class 1 freight railroad is hampering positive results.
