Luggage is one of the main reasons why travellers have recourse to their own private motorcar as their first choice. If active and sustainable forms of mobility are to be promoted to an adequate extent, it is indispensable to develop innovative logistic solutions for luggage, separating the transport of luggage from the transport of people. The aim must be to offer an alternative to the car boot, but with all the same characteristics (as regards flexibility, convenience, capacity and so on). That means that a form of "public transport for freight" needs to be established as a counterpart to public transport for passengers.%Gepäck ist einer der Hauptgründe, weshalb u. a. bei Reisen vorrangig auf den eigenen Pkw zurückgegriffen wird. Um aktive und nachhaltige Mobilitätsformen in ausreichendem Maße zu fördern, ist es unumgänglich, innovative Gepäck-Logistiksysteme zu entwickeln, welche den Gepäcktransport vom Personenverkehr entkoppeln. Es muss das Ziel sein, den Kofferraum des Autos vollwertig zu ersetzen (im Hinblick auf Flexibilität, Bequemlichkeit, Kapazität etc.), weshalb als Pendant zum Öffentlichen Personenverkehr ein „Öffentlicher Güterverkehr" etabliert werden muss.
