Achieving user-focused vehicle development in practice taking the example of the Movia C30 metro trains for Stockholm

One of the central requirements formulated in the call for tenders for the C30 metro trains for Stockholm was the comprehensive implementation of the ergonomic aspects required for safe operation and use for all the different groups of passengers as well as for the operating personnel. Achieving that took more than just applying the existing standards and guidelines. One of the central aspects was the use of special tools and analyses and the active participation of passenger groups, train drivers and maintenance personnel.That, however, presupposed intense cooperation with the operator, AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL), and Swedish specialists to make sure that language and other barriers did not get in the way of communication with grassroots users. The author presents examples of typical situations in describing Bombardier's approach to developing these trains. What are the resulting benefits for the people who work with them and those who travel in them? What advantages accrue to the operator?
