Billboard-sized digital screens for visual and audio broadcasts of advertising and train information have been installed at three underground stations in central Melbourne run by suburban passenger operator Metro Trains Melbourne. Formed of LED panels and measuring 2840 mm by 1520 mm, the Cross Track Digital screens at Flagstaff, Parliament and Central stations are claimed by supplier XTD Ltd to have been developed specifically for over-track mounting in a railway station environment. XTD has used a thinner casing than is found in comparable products to ensure an easier fit in the sometimes confined spaces available on urban stations.
