Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez Perez-Castejon participated in celebrations on February 1 to open the first phase of a high speed line to Murcia. The 38.3 km branch diverges from the Madrid - Alacant route at Monforte del Cid to serve new stations at Elche and Orihuela Miguel Hernandez.
