The November elections: What's at stake for short lines

As I pen this article in September, the race for the White House is heating up, and we in Washing-ton are preparing to work closely with transition teams now forming. Between now and then, we are anticipating an election path much like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at a Disney theme park. It is fair to say that one of the greatest frustrations with today's politics is the seeming inability to get things done in Washington. This is the polar opposite of the railroad world. Shippers and railroaders spend every day making decisions. They study problems, they create solutions, and they implement those solutions.
