A great way to give your layout a more finished look early in the construction process is to begin with 'Sub Scenery'. This stage of scenery construction in applied once the bench work is constructed and before track is installed on the railroad. Sub scenery provides the base upon which additional layers of scenic materials are successively layered. Applying a coat of earth colored flat or spray on texture paint is one of the most common forms used for a scenery base. In building the Inner Harbor project Woodland Scenics' grass mats were used instead of paint. Easily and quickly applied using either Woodland Scenics' Mat Adhesive or a water based contact cement.
