Hopes fade for reuse as first Class 365s sent for scrap

EVERSHOLT Rail has sent the first of its 40 homeless Class 365 electric units for scrap, despite a possible 15 years' working life left in what it describes as "a fantastic fleet". Six of the four-car 'Networker Express' units, which cost almost £1 million a vehicle to construct in the mid-1990s and which have been extensively refurbished, had made their way to Sims Metals at Newport and Booths at Rotherham by mid-October.
